Save $1500 when you install qualifying Windows
The windows that qualify for a new federal energy-efficiency tax credit have super-insulating qualities. Not all windows measure up.
Until May 31, every window that bears the federal government's Energy Star label is eligible for a tax credit of 30 percent on the price of the windows - minus installation - up to $1,500.
After June 1, the requirements tighten, and even some Energy Star windows will not qualify for the credit. At that time, the windows, doors and skylights that will qualify for the tax credit must have a U-factor and solar-heat-gain coefficient of 0.30 or less.
